In an adventurous career with the Royal Marines and the New Zealand Regular Force, he did his share of sea time, was in Turkey during the confrontation with Kemal Pasha, 1922-23, spent a happy period with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and during the 1939-45 war, was involved in the Defence of Britain, and the invasions of Sicily and Normandy.\u003cbr\u003e\nFor many years he has been active in the administration of cricket, thoroughbred breeding and racing.
