Alpers, a New Zealander, learned of the intelligence and friendliness of a dolphin that had appeared in a north coast bay and stayed to interact and play with bathers, and duly wrote this book looking at dolphins from ancient and other history and well as explaining the biology, habits, family life and stories of a fascinating and clearly high intelligent and gregarious animal.
