Details the author's experiences practicing medicine and serving as a colonial administrator in North and East Africa (primarily Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia) during the 1920s and 1930s.
Alberto Denti di Pirajno (1889–1968) was a true Renaissance man. He was a medical doctor, a Duke, a fluent speaker of several Arabic and African dialects, and later in life, a successful novelist (most notably writing Ippolita). He served as the personal physician to the Duke of Aosta and was the final Italian governor of Tripoli.
