ABOUT
No 1 Squadron had its beginnings in 1930 at Hobsonville airfield and was formed as a territorial unit.
With the outbreak of war the territorial squadrons were merged. Their aircraft were Vickers Vincent and Vilderbeest biplanes that were involved in anti submarine, anti raider patrols and convoy escort work. These aircraft were superseded by Lockheed Hudson light bombers and PV-1 Venturas. The squadron operated in the South Pacific during the war from New Zealand, Norfolk Island to Guadacanal, the Solomon Islands and the Bismark Archipelago.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome images.
