Chronicles the author's true story of adopting and raising two common seals, Flipper and Diana, at his home in Wiltshire.
At breakfast one morning Mr Pearson was suddenly smitten with a desire to rear a seal-pup and make friends with it underwater.
This book tells of the unexpected snags he encountered and equally unexpected successes he achieved. He saved two orphaned seal-cubs from the sandbanks of the Wash only to find that they were almost impossible to rear. But despite the difficulties of their diet, they proved to be remarkably intelligent creatures, and extremely beautiful when he went underwater with them and watched them flying past.
This is a fascinating account of meeting two very different animals on their own terms and trying to understand how their minds work.
