ABOUT
First edition of 2,000 numbered copies, nmber 1015.
A biography of Ben and Eleanor Farjeon, beginning when teenage Ben left his London home for the Victorian goldfields.
In 1861 he crossed to New Zealand and participated in founding the Otago Daily Times. After writing a novel, and in 1867 encouraged by a letter from Charles Dickens, to whom he had dedicated his book, he returned to London and became established as a popular novelist and founded the well-known Farjeon literary family.
While in Dunedin Farjeon made the acquaintance of the celebrated American actor, Joseph Jefferson, who was on a professional visit to New Zealand. Nearly twenty years later, during a visit by Jefferson and his family to London, the two met again, the outcome of which was the marriage of Farjeon to Jefferson's daughter Margaret, and the birth of their daughter Eleanor in 1881.
Includes monochrome images and illustrations.
