ABOUT
When the S.S. Fort Stikine blew up in Bombay Docks on April 14th 1944, she created one of the greatest explosions in history.
The facts are simple, if staggering. The Fort Stikine steamed into Bombay carrying a mixed cargo of 1,395 tons of explosives (including shells, torpedoes, mines and incendiary bombs) and £1,000,000 in gold bars, all taken aboard in Britain, plus 8,700 bales of hessian-wrapped raw cotton, hundreds of drums of lubricating oil (some leaking), scrap iron, sulphur, rice and resin, picked up in Karachi.
Includes a few monochrome images and diagrams.
