ABOUT
The second volume of the history of Qantas, that covers the dramatic story of the Qantas wartime operations and takes the airline through the chaotic postwar decade.
The culmination of this period was the major expansion of the Qantas route across the Pacific to the west coast of the United States in 1954. This volume also charts the development of an international framework for airline operations, and Britain's struggle to establish an aviation industry in a world dominated by American transport aircraft. Australia's unwilling but unavoidable swing to United States airliners, when Qantas acquired the Lockheed Constellation, showed that the ties of Empire were slackening as new links were made with America.
Includes monochrome images and decorated end papers.
