ABOUT
Describes the history of Cornwallis on the Pūponga Peninsula and the work of SCOW (Save Cornwallis Old Wharf) in rebuilding the wharf.
The historic Cornwallis Wharf, which was a vital structure giving all-tide access to the settlement in its early days when the Manukau Harbour waters met the travel needs of residents and access to the city of Auckland. The first land purchases there took place in the mid-1830s, but the history covers the pre-European Maori story too. Cornwallis was initially planned as a centre of importance on the Manukau, but this did not occur and after early settlement and development the district became a holiday destination for Aucklanders and others.
Illustrated with monochrome images and maps.
