ABOUT
History of the East African Airlines that was formed after the Second World War with the acquisition of six DH89A Rapides, flown from England in 1945.
From servicing Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika the airline spread, first to Central and South Africa, followed by international routes to the United Kingdom and India, Hong Kong and New York. This airline out of Africa attracted remarkable men as pilots, engineers and adventurous pioneers; was the first to carry a reigning British monarch; the first African airline to carry a reigning Pontiff, Pope Paul VI; the first airline to introduce the VC10 into Australia, New Zealand and China.
This is a detailed history of the early days, the pilots who built up the routs and detailed accounts of their flights, adventures and tragedies.
