Frederick Page was a phenomenon in New Zealand musical life.
In 1946 he was appointed the first lecturer in music at Victoria University College and established there a department renowned for its championing of 20th century music. His Journal not only has an infectious zest but is a picture of the growth of a young colonial musician into a figure of international stature.
