ABOUT
A memorial volume to one of New Zealand's leading men of letters, as well as a valuable study in its own right.
As a poet, novelist and historian, as journalist and broadcaster, Alan Mulgan had a long acquaintance with most of the authors whose work he discusses, and a broad knowledge and appreciation of the earlier writers. He is therefore qualified to write what he describes in the preface as a personal study of some landmarks in New Zealand literature.
This book comprises informal studies of major books, authors, and fields of literature - from Sir George Grey's Polynesian Mythology to publications of the nineteen-fifties. This gives ten chapters substantially devoted to individual books and authors, and three that discuss the broader fields of anthologies, reminiscences and literary magazines.
