Biographical memoir by Henry J. Hayward 1865–1945), an English-born New Zealand theatrical manager and pioneer cinema proprietor.
Henry J. Hayward was a crucial figure in the early development of New Zealand's entertainment industry. Alongside his family and his touring musical variety company, The Brescians, he helped popularize early silent cinema across New Zealand and Australia in the early 1900s.
He launched moving picture shows around Auckland (notably starting black-and-white moving pictures in Birkenhead's Foresters Hall in 1912) and went on to co-found major local theater chains like the Fullers' Hayward Theatres Corporation
