ABOUT
The local history of the Mount Albert district in Auckland.
The book was commissioned and released on the occasion of the Mt. Albert borough's Golden Jubilee (1911–1961) to chronicle the rich development of the Auckland suburb. It covers the district from its earliest Maori history and European arrivals through to its development as a mid-20th-century borough.
Instead of a rigid textbook filled only with dates, Scott focused on the human element of regional growth. It tells the story of the co-operation, conflict, and sheer effort required by early pioneers to transform a volcanic landscape of scrub, swamp, and scoria into a civilized township.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome images, drawings and maps with illustrated end papers.
