ABOUT
Based on the oral history of the Bounty mutineers many of whose descendants were resettled on Norfolk Island in the 1850's.
Little of their recollections were recorded in writing and largely were retained in the ancient manner of story-telling. Pauline Marrington's 13 chapters mainly record the memories of one man, which include life on Pitcairn as well as the hard and isolated existence on Norfolk, for it was little known to the outside world until WWII when an airstrip was built and troops stationed.
The text contains many examples of the unique language of Pitcairn Islanders, based on a mixture of old English and Tahitian.
Includes 20 monochrome images, maps, maps on end papers
CONDITION
Excellent with only light wear and spine fading on dust jacket, faint marks on end papers. Images depict all need to know detail.
