The historic conchological collection and matching scientific catalogs created by Dr. John Clarkson Jay (1808–1891).
Dr. John C. Jay was a prominent early American conchologist (shell researcher) and a founding member of the Lyceum of Natural History in New York.
By the time it reached its peak, Jay's collection contained roughly 50,000 specimens representing over 7,000 distinct species.
Illustrated throughout with 10 colour plates.
