ABOUT
Limited edition #351 or 650 copies.
Early in 1820 the storeship HMS Dromedary sailed from NSW bound for northern New Zealand to obtain kauri spars for use by the Royal Navy in England. What was expected to be a brief stay in New Zealand became extended to the 10 months noted in the title.
Cruise's impressions of the north of New Zealand and of Maori society during the climax of Hongi's influence and the intertribal wars.
While authorship may be disputed, the book remains one the earliest first-hand accounts of the habits, practices and life-styles of the Maori encountered.
