The author was a sergeant in the Australian Army and arrived, somewhat unceremoniously, by parachute on the island of Kiriwana. He proceeded to dispense justice and medicine with judicious levity to the satisfaction of all concerned. Kiriwina inspired Bronislaw Malinowski and Taubada Gordon Saville, who became its ruler.
