ABOUT
Explores the history behind the major global battlefields where New Zealand soldiers lived, fought, and died.
It traces how these conflicts shaped New Zealand's unique national identity and psyche.
It offers a comprehensive overview spanning more than a century of foreign campaigns. This includes the high veld of South Africa, the mud trenches of the Western Front (Gallipoli, Messines, Passchendaele), the deserts of North Africa (El Alamein), World War II Europe (Crete, Cassino), the snows of South Korea, and the steam-filled jungles of Vietnam.
He draws heavily from archival records, contemporary newspaper filings, personal letters, and diaries to show how the war was reported to families waiting anxiously at home, and what the frontline soldiers genuinely thought.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome and colour images.
