ABOUT
Wortley (1892 - 1926) was a British WWI flying ace and Military Cross-recipient credited with 6 victories. A fictionalized account of his own experiences which Wortley, an aviation journalist, wrote to encourage "air-minded" youth towards military service.
The author enlisted in the British Army in 1914 and transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in the spring of 1917. After service with a training squadron he was posted to the 22 Squadron from Bristol. He then served in France and later commanded No. 88 Squadron of the 80th Wing (from 1918 to the conclusion of the War). This book, ostensibly "Col. Enderby's diary" but actually based on Wortley's experiences, is one of the best accounts of a Bristol Fighter Squadron.
CONDITION
