ABOUT
Chronicles the rise and fall of one of the country's most isolated goldfields.
Macetown is the story of one of New Zealand's gold mining ghost towns, as told through the stories of the miners, mines and characters who made Macetown live. It is the story of the transformation of a bustling 1860s gold-rush settlement into a completely uninhabited ghost town.
The book blends local archival research with stories of colorful pioneer personalities, miners, and hardships endured during early Otago quartz mining.
Author Eileen Beaton (also known as Eileen Henderson in Central Otago) spent decades in the region and even held her own personal mining claim in Macetown.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome images and map.
