ABOUT
This book tells of events during World War II in the Central Pacific.
In September, 1945, the Author, with two other New Zealanders, flew from Auckland at short notice to join officially an Australian convoy at Torokina, Northern Solomons, which went to the relief of Nauru and Ocean Island and accepted the surrender of the Japanese after their three years' rule of terrorism.
The Ocean and Nauru Islands expedition is an interesting record of the surrender of the Japanese and the re-occupation of the islands by Australian forces.
Ellis is famous for his discovery of phospate deposits on Ocean Island and Nauru, which could be mined and used as an agricultural fertiliser. He was given a knighthood in 1938.
Well illustrated with monochrome images and decorated end papers.
