Biography of the "heir apparent" to Mussolini, Italo Balbo served in World War 1 and became a leading Fascist organiser in the 1920's.
He took on the task of building the Italian Air Force. Much of this book is about his own extraordinary flying experiences. Balbo was the only leading Fascist to oppose the anti-Jewish laws and also to oppose Mussolini's alliance with Hitler. Balbo was killed by "friendly fire" in 1940 when his plane was shot down over Tobruk by Italian anti-aircraft guns.
