ABOUT
The Story of the World's first Natural Gas to Gasoline Plant.
The New Zealand Synfuel plant, also known as the Motunui Synthetic Fuels Plant, was the world's first natural gas to gasoline plant. It was designed to convert natural gas into methanol and then into synthetic gasoline. Construction began in 1981, and the plant was commissioned in 1984-85. It was initially a successful project, but due to fluctuating oil prices, it shifted its focus to methanol production and stopped producing synthetic gasoline in 1997.
