Written by Frances Brewer Lysnar (1864–1925), an Auckland-born traveler and missionary who extensively documented New Zealand history.
A compilation of "chatty" descriptive notes, travel logs, and historical accounts written to introduce international audiences and local settlers to the distinct landscape and culture of New Zealand.
Its primarily centers around; Māori Life and Customs detailing everyday indigenous life, social customs, carving traditions, and traditional practices like Tā moko (tattooing). Also covers a late-colonial European perspective on the expansion of towns, local infrastructure, and regional development across the North and South Islands during the turn of the century.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome plates/images and drawings.
