ABOUT
An anthology compiling the true stories and folklore of rural New Zealanders
Represents the fifth and final volume in a highly popular series compiled from Henderson's iconic New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC) Sunday afternoon radio show, Open Country, which began broadcasting in 1961. Rather than utilizing professional writers, the anthology features letters, memories, and reflections sent in by everyday countrymen and countrywomen.
It acts as a vibrant social history. It details intense accounts of high-country snow-raking to save starving sheep, alongside profiles of early Chinese goldminers, remote Forest Service lookout wardens, transient "swaggers," and bush-hidden moonshine stills.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome line drawings.
