Details mid-20th-century New Zealand trout fishing, covering dry-fly techniques on the Tongariro River and the history of the Bay of Plenty region.
Covers the angling landscape from the 1930s to the 1950s. Dickinson was notable for advocating the use of the dry fly on the historic, heavy waters of the Tongariro River, which at the time were strictly dominated by large wet flies and hallowed lures.
Beyond fishing techniques, the book is highly distinct for a chapter dedicated to Dickinson's close personal friend, the renowned and controversial Māori prophet Rua Kenana Hepetipa.
Illustrated throughout with monochrome images, fold out map and fine line drawings.
