ABOUT
Memoirs of emigrating to the land of promise, plenty and hope.
"Hopeful" is sadly disillusioned, and in a series of amusing, lively letters to her brother in Canada, exposes the "myths" which she feels are deliberately created by the Shipping Companies to tempt new passengers.
"Hopeful" succeeds in entertainingly combining anecdote with fact to give an insight into the conditions prevailing in a colonial city of the 1880s.
