It covers the medical history of European medicine in New Zealand, the effects of European culture contact on Maori health and the history of individual diseases in the Maori in this period.
Laurie Gluckman was qualified to practice in a number of medical fields and his study of medical facilities, diseases, and treatment for both Maori and Europeans up to 1860.
