ABOUT
A focused retrospective tracking the social evolution, pioneering families, and urban growth of Auckland from its early days as a colonial settlement under Captain William Hobson through to the mid-20th century.
It is particularly notable for popularising and cementing Auckland's historical moniker "The Queen City". Documents the rich municipal history, civic development, and lifestyle shifts of Auckland's residents. It covers early landmarks, the establishment of elective municipal government in 1871, and the shared evolution of the city alongside the Auckland Harbour Board.
John Grainger was an experienced New Zealand journalist and newspaper printer.
