Experiences of the 1962 Wilkes-Vostok Antarctic Traverse party.
The expedition was led by the author, New Zealander Bob Thomson, with Weasel and Caterpillar tractors and sledges filled with the most modern equipment. The return journey - to Vostok and back to Wilkes was 900 miles in white-outs, blizzards, and temperatures reaching as low as 100 degrees below freezing.
