In 1889 the author, who later became famous as war correspondent of The Times, sailed the cutter Alerte on a treasure hunt to the uninhabited island of Trinidad off Brazil (not to be confused with the West Indian Trinidad).
A bluff buccaneer of the old school, he stood no nonsense and soundly skippered his crew of four paid hands and nine 'gentlemen adventurers', each of whom risked 1000 pounds stirling. Despite 3 months exploration and digging no treasure was found, but Knight's account of the voyage and the difficulties of the expedition make fascinating reading.
Includes one monochrome map.
CONDITION
Excellent with light handling wear on covers and spotting inside covers, stamped on underside page edges, pages clean with the odd mark. Images depict all need to know detail.
