Written in a local, vernacular style meant to capture everyday New Zealand situations of the 1960s. However, it is primarily remembered today for reinforcing harmful racial stereotypes.

The stories centered on a "comic Maori" stock character—co-opting "Hori" (the Maori transliteration of George) as a generic caricature. The series depicted Maori as lazy, unpunctual, and happy-go-lucky. At the time, prominent Maori leaders like Graham Latimer and John Rangihau publicly criticized the books for deeply damaging the public perception of Maori and upholding a biased colonial mindset.

Illustrated throughout with monochrome line drawings.
