An account of a World War II, New Zealand P.O.W. escape in North Africa.
The author, a New Zealander who sailed to England in 1940 as a Brigade Major, is most famous for his indomitable spirit as a Prisoner of War, shown by his nine attempts, including five successful escapes, from enemy hands in Libya, Italy and Germany. Twice he got back to the Allied lines. Clifton became Chief Engineer, Thirty Corps, and from the beginning of 1942 until his capture, he Commanded the 6th NZ Brigade In North Africa until his capture by Rommel in 1942. As a POW made many attempts to escape.
From 1940 until 1942 he took part in the battles fought over the Western Desert and also in the Greek campaign.
