Antique tourist guide from 171+ years ago, this specific edition was printed to coincide with the 1855 Exposition Universelle (World's Fair) held in Paris under Emperor Napoleon III.
Hachette rushed out these compact, affordable english-language guides (priced at just 1 franc, as noted at the top of the page) to cater to the massive influx of British and American tourists visiting the exhibition.
The wood-engraved vignette on the front page depicts the Palais de l'Industrie, the main exhibition hall custom-built for the 1855 World's Fair. It stood on the Champs-Élysées and was later demolished in 1897 to make way for the Grand Palais.

CONDITION
Excellent with wear for age, complete clean and intact, faint crease running down the centre.
