ABOUT
Details the impact of Christianity on the Māori people.
Has been profound, complex, and highly contested, evolving from initial resistance to rapid, widespread adoption, and later to a complex relationship shaped by colonisation.
Introduced by European missionaries in the early 19th century, Christianity fundamentally transformed Māori spirituality, literacy, social structures, and political resistance. While it provided new tools for adaptation, it also served as an instrument of British colonization that severely disrupted traditional life.
