Chronicles the dramatic history and engineering development of the aviation ejector seat, specifically focusing on Martin-Baker escape systems.
Before writing the book, William "Doddy" Hay served in the RAF airborne army and became a prominent live test pilot ("guinea pig") for aircraft ejection systems.
On April 1, 1961, at Chalgrove Airfield, Doddy Hay made history by successfully conducting the first live "Zero-Zero" static ejection from ground level, proving that pilots could safely eject from a stationary aircraft at zero altitude and zero speed.
