The Menzies were pioneers of the Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, arriving there in 1878 as settlers in the bay that bears their name. John Henry Menzies had come to NZ from Scotland, originally living in Southland from 1860 and took up property on the peninsula with his wife and young family where Ian H. Menzies describes nearly a century of country life in a unique area.
