ABOUT
For the first 60 years of its life, Waikato was the largest closed hospital in New Zealand. Until the 1950s, when it opened its doors to part-time specialists, change was resisted by a select few senior medical staff who wielded considerable power. In the 1960s, specialisation developed rapidly and, in the following decade, the Hospital transformed itself from a secondary hospital to a modern base hospital, and now to a fully-fledged tertiary institution.
Illustrated with monochrome images.
