This translation is a 1974 reprint of the first British edition of Hesse's 'synthesis of prose, poetry and watercolour sketches,' which was apparently one of his favourite books.
It is a beautifully created publication - using an elegant typeface and bold separate-page chapter headings; ahead of interpretative illustrations.
It reproduces in black-and-white the colour reproductions of the original German edition of 1920.
