About

Biography of Samuel Ironside who left England to seek missionary work in the South Seas and arrived at Hokianga, New Zealand, in 1839.

Within a few months, Ironside became fluent in the Maori language and was a supporter and witness to the Treaty of Waitangi which established British sovereignty over New Zealand. He knew many of those killed in the Wairu massacre and buried the victims. His story is one of the rare missionary stories that was recorded, in published memoirs and unpublished journals, enabling his biography.

Includes monochrome images and illustrations.

Maps on end papers.
